How to read it
The main instrument of monetary policy. The level alone says little about how tight policy is: what matters is the rate net of inflation or of expectations - see the real rate.
How it is measured
Set by the Bank of Russia Board of Directors at eight scheduled meetings a year, with unscheduled decisions possible. The series is daily and shows the rate in force on each day.
